“You say there is peace in Bengal but it’s the peace of the graveyard”, Dr. Anirban Ganguly in context to partition

Kolkata 20 August : Union Ministry of culture and Indira Gandhi National Centre of the Arts today to mark ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day”, today held the inaugural sessionat Rabindranath Tagore Centre, ICCR,9A, Ho Chin Minh Sarani, Kolkata.This was in continuation of Delhi event held on the same theme. At the inaugural session of the eventDr.AnirbanGanguly, Hony. Director Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, Research Foundation, and National Executive Council (NEC) BJP, Caption Shubhojit Banerjee, Indian Maritime University, Kolkata and Shri. Anurag Punetha , Media Controller, IGNCA were present.

The inaugural session began with felicitation of the two guests by Shri. Anurag PunethaMedia Controller , IGNCA. He informed the guests and the audience present in the hall that how partition of the country is one of the biggest displacement which human civilisation has ever known. He further added that to mark “Partition Horrors Remembrance Day”, photo exhibition was organised by IGNCA in the Parliament which wasinaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla amidst the presence of other dignitaries.

Dr.Anirban Ganguly, decided to address the audience in ‘Bangla’ as the place and occasion called for it. Speaking at the event, he began with thanking Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) for the initiative and said it is very thoughtful and a noble gesture on part of IGNCA. He added, there is a reason why Prime Minister, Narendra Modi solemnly declared to henceforth observe “ Partition Horrors Remembrance Day” on 14th August every year. It is so because the country should not forget history of the country and the tragedy people suffered by the ‘partition’. He later talked about ‘ Partition’ in context to Bengal and mentioned how Sealdah platform is an instance of ‘partition’ tragedy and its horror, which has not been documented as it should have been. He urged the audience to look into the facts and they shall come to know the real picture of genocide. He further elaborated and said in context to ‘partition’ in reference to Bengal, “You say there is peace in Bengal but it’s the peace of the graveyard”.He concluded by saying IGNCA through the mediums of photo exhibitions, seminars and film screening on theme of ‘partition’ shall make people sensitive towards history especially in reference to ‘partition
